PK-5 Mini Signal Latching Relay – 2A 30VDC 8Pins for Precision Switching
Product Overview
The PK-5 series is a compact mini signal latching relay (bistable relay) designed for low-power, high-reliability applications. Rated at 2A 30VDC and available in an 8-pin DIP configuration, the PK-5 consumes only 0.3~0.43W coil power and maintains its contact state without continuous coil energization – ideal for battery-powered and energy-sensitive systems. This Latching Relay offers excellent low-level switching capability (10~50μA, 10~50mV), fast operate/release time (≤4ms), and hermetic sealing (≤10⁻³ Pa·cm³/s) for harsh environments. As a core member of YM’s precision relay family – which includes Metal Sealing Relay, Polarized Relay, PCB Board Relay, PCB Signal Relay, and Industrial Power Relay – the PK-5 is trusted in Aviation Electronics, smart meters, medical devices, and telecommunications equipment.

Key Features & Advantages
- True latching (bistable) operation: Dual-coil or single-coil with polarity reversal – retains contact state after pulse ends. Zero holding power consumption reduces system energy use by >90% compared to non-latching relays.
- Ultra-low coil power (0.3~0.43W): Compatible with battery-powered and energy-harvesting devices – ideal for remote sensors, IoT nodes, and portable instruments.
- Excellent low-level signal switching: Reliably switches dry circuits down to 10μA / 10mV – no contact oxidation or false openings, perfect for test & measurement and medical electronics.
- Hermetic sealing (≤10⁻³ Pa·cm³/s): Protects contacts from humidity, dust, and corrosive gases – ensures stable contact resistance over decades of service.
- Fast switching (≤4ms) & high insulation: 500Vrms dielectric strength and >500MΩ insulation resistance – suitable for isolating sensitive analog signals.
- Standard 8-pin DIP footprint: Drop-in replacement for many industry-standard signal latching relays (e.g., G6A, TQ2-L, etc.).
YM’s engineering advantage: The PK-5 leverages advanced magnetic circuit technology from our Polarized Relay and Military Metal Relay lines, ensuring consistent pull-in sensitivity and contact bounce <1ms. Compared to generic signal relays, the PK-5 offers superior sealing and wider temperature range, making it a preferred choice for aviation and defense contractors.
This relay complements YM’s broader portfolio, including New Energy Relay, Solid State Relay, and Automotive Relay. For high-reliability airborne systems, our Military Aviation Connector and Aviation Microswitch families provide complete signal chain solutions.
How to Use the PK-5 Latching Relay – Step by Step
- Identify coil configuration: The PK-5 is typically a dual-coil latching relay (set coil and reset coil) or single-coil with polarity-sensitive operation. Refer to the datasheet for your specific part number.
- Apply set pulse: To close the contacts (e.g., from common to NO), apply a DC voltage equal to the nominal coil voltage (e.g., 5V) to the set coil pins for 10-50 ms. Do not exceed the rated pulse width to avoid overheating.
- State retention: After the pulse ends, the relay remains in the closed state indefinitely without any coil power. This is the key advantage of a Latching Relay.
- Apply reset pulse: To open the contacts, apply a DC voltage (same nominal value) to the reset coil pins for 10-50 ms. The relay will return to its open state.
- Load connection: Connect your low-level signal or small power load (max 2A 30VDC) to the common and normally-open terminals. For dry circuit applications (μA/mV levels), no special contact treatment is needed – the PK-5’s gold-plated contacts ensure reliable switching.
- PCB mounting: Insert the 8-pin DIP package into a standard IC socket or solder directly to the PCB. Wave soldering is allowed (260°C max for 5 seconds).
Pro tip: If using a single-coil latching version, reverse the polarity of the pulse to reset the relay. A simple H-bridge driver or two MOSFETs can generate the bipolar pulse from a single supply.
Application Scenarios & Key Buyer Benefits
Typical High-Reliability & Low-Power Uses
- Avionics & military electronics: Hermetic sealing and wide temperature range make the PK-5 suitable for cockpit controls, radar systems, and missile guidance circuits.
- Smart energy meters (AMI): Latching operation allows utility meters to disconnect/reconnect power without draining the backup battery – extends battery life by years.
- Medical devices (patient monitors, infusion pumps): Low-level signal capability ensures accurate switching of ECG/EEG leads without introducing noise.
- Telecommunications & network switches: Bistable relays hold line configuration during power loss – critical for fail-safe operation.
- Industrial control & automation: PLC output modules, test equipment multiplexers, and data acquisition systems benefit from the relay’s long mechanical life (≥1×10⁷ operations).
Direct Value to International Buyers
- Energy savings: Zero holding power reduces overall system power consumption – especially valuable in battery-powered IoT sensors and remote monitoring stations.
